On Sunday, March 26th, 2023, William “Billy” Norwood Monroe was called home to be with his Lord. Billy was born July 7, 1960, to Vera Jean (Duke) Monroe and the late William Norwood Sr. Billy was a Chicago native who’s love for the city was un-matched. As a teen he relocated with his family to Sparta, IL where he attended Sparta High School and grew into a man. When he came of age, he returned to the city of Chicago where he lived the remainder of his life. Billy enjoyed music, dancing and having a nice time. He was an avid reader with appreciation for a great mystery. He never met a stranger with his contagious smile and sociable personality. Billy practiced the Jehovah Witness faith and was not shy about sharing his religious or political views. Billy leaves behind a loving mother, Vera Jean Monroe and stepfather Abraham Monroe of Sparta IL. Adoring sisters Arkeitha (Michael) May of Springfield, IL and Alissa (Corey)Britt of Oswego, IL. Two caring brothers Kenny (Rosland)Norwood Monroe of Sparta and Avontes (Michell) Monroe of Atlanta, Ga. and a host of nieces (Camika, Keisha, Samia, Anara, Millie, Aria) and nephews (Kwan, Cameron, Avontis, Ilan). A private memorial service will be held with close family and friends, at a later date.
