Tony Sider

January 8, 1935 — April 22, 2022

Antanas Sideravicius, aka Tony Sider, most recently of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., passed away April 22, 2022, at the age of 87. He was born January 8, 1935, in Gelgaudiskis, Lithuania, to Pranas and Marija (Kluonius) Sideravicius. During World War II, Antanas and his family fled their homeland to escape the Soviet occupation, eventually settling in Cicero, Ill. A registered architect, Antanas graduated from Chicago Technical College with a bachelor of science degree in architectural engineering. He served many years as an architect, including a lengthy tenure with Zuhair Fayez and Associates in Saudi Arabia, where he designed hospitals and contributed his expertise to numerous other projects. An avid world traveler, Antanas relished time spent in Thailand, the Philippines and many other countries. Most of all, he cherished numerous return visits to Lithuania after the country became the first of the Soviet-occupied republics to declare and regain its independence in 1990. Together with Rasa, his beloved wife of almost 30 years, he made yearly trips to his homeland while staying actively engaged with the vibrant Lithuanian community in Chicago. He also savored countless beautiful summer days through the years at the family cottage in Union Pier, Mich. Antanas had a lifelong love of fine art and was a skilled ballroom dancer. Better known as Tony to his family and friends, he will always be remembered for his warmth, his wonderful sense of humor, and his zest for life. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rasa Cepukenaite, of Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.; his niece, Victoria Murphy Arthur, and her husband, Eric Arthur, of Brownsburg, Ind.; his grand-nephews, Ryan and Paul Arthur, also of Brownsburg; his mother-in-law, Stefa Cepukeniene; and his sister-in-law, Milda Krivickiene. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Roma Sideravicius Murphy; his brother-in-law, James Murphy; and his father-in-law, Vaclovas Cepukenas. Antanas was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1510 South 49th Ct., Cicero, where a Memorial visitation will be held 9:00 am until time of Memorial Mass 10:00 a.m. on April 29, 2022. An additional Mass and private interment are planned in Lithuania in May.
