Marica Hobar (nee Martinčić)
It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Marica Hobar, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, who passed away on March 4, 2025. She was 91 years young.
Born in Risika, Otok Krk, Croatia, on January 21, 1934, to her parents Mate and Jovana Martinčić, she came to the United States in 1960 for a visit with her aunt Kate. Soon after her arrival, she met Marko, her future husband. They married in October of the same year, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion for 64 years. Their family grew with the birth of two daughters, who were the world to her.
Marica’s love for her daughters was boundless, shaping everything she did. A patient, nurturing Mama, she poured her heart into raising them, always guiding them with warmth and devotion. She also cherished the time she spent with her grandson, Jake, lovingly caring for him as a baby and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Marica’s legacy of kindness, strength, and the unbreakable bonds of love she shared with her daughters and grandson will forever live on in their hearts.
Marica was preceded in death by her parents, Mate and Jovana Martinčić, and her younger siblings Ruža Volarić and Josip Martinčić. Marica is survived by her loving husband Marko, her two devoted daughters, Rosemary and Jeannie Hobar, and grandson Jake, who was her pride and joy. Loving aunt to Silvana, Darko, Ivanka, Lidija and Melody.
Visitation will be on March 8th 2025 at 9:30am, followed by a funeral mass to celebrate her life at 10:30 at Sacred Heart Church located at 8245 W. 111th Street in Palos Hills. A graveside service at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery (7201 South Archer Avenue, Justice), will take place following the Mass, where Marica will be laid to rest. The family invites you to join them afterward for a luncheon at Jenny's Steakhouse (11041 Menard Avenue, Chicago Ridge) to share in memories and fellowship.
A deeply devout and religious woman, Marica carried her faith with her throughout her life. She was known for her unwavering belief and the love she shared with those around her. Her commitment to prayer and her strong spiritual life were central to her being, and she found peace in the comfort of her faith. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in the form of memorial Masses offered in her memory, which would have meant so much to her.
