Ellen Middlestead Kupfer, daughter of John J. and Emily (Schneck) Middlestead was born September 27, 1927 near Merricourt, North Dakota where she grew up with 12 siblings. Ellen was united in marriage to John F. Kupfer on December 4, 1946 in Ellendale, ND. They made their home in Palos Hills, IL. Ellen loved her family, opening her home to all that were trying to make a home here in the Chicago area. Ellen enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, (best apple pie ever) playing cards, dominos, bingo, and travel. Ellen worked as a welder at Foreman Manufacturing/Tibor, for 26 years. After retiring Ellen and her husband enjoyed many years being snowbirds in Apache Junction, Arizona. Ellen was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and several local senior clubs. Ellen became a resident in Rosary Hill Home in Justice, IL after suffering a major stroke in 2013 where she lived till our Lord called her home on July 11, 2020. Ellen was 92 years old. Grateful for having shared in Ellen’s life are her children: Linda (Marvin) Bowen, Petersburg, IL; Donna (Richard) Ricci, Palos Hills, IL; Sandra (Tony) Monaco, Hickory Hills, IL. Her grandchildren, Michelle Ricci (Barry Cunnings) John Monaco (KC Schammert), Jennifer Monaco, Jessica (Brendan) Metz, Steven Monaco; two great grandchildren, Oliver Metz and Vivian Monaco; three sisters Viola Lukacik of Chicago, Bertha Hoffman of Grand Rapids, MN and Violet Lillestol of Mobridge, SD and many nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John F. Kupfer, three brothers, Dan, Harold, and Melvin and six sisters, Ruth Brandenburger, Martha Scheneman, Edna Hoff, Clara Fiechtner, Delores Brown and Darlene Fregien.
