Dominic Anthony Nicosia of Chicago passed away peacefully on October 26, 2024 surrounded by the love of his wife, family, and caregivers at Grace Point Place Memory Care in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Dominic was born on October 25, 1937, the son of the late Antoinette Barbour and Mario Nicosia. He was raised in Chicago. He graduated from Chicago Vocational High School in 1956. Dominic met and started dating his beloved wife, Irene Joy, while attending high school. They were married on October 27, 1956 sharing 68 years of marriage that was filled with much love and devotion. Dominic is the beloved father of Dominic (Elaine) Nicosia, Joseph (Janice) Nicosia, Donna Nicosia, Laurie (Patrick) O’Brien, and Joanne (Stephen) Mick. Cherished grandfather to nine grandchildren and cherished great-grandfather to fifteen. Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Fond cousin and friend to many. Dominic was preceded in death by his siblings Josephine (Rocco) Zoccoli, Frank (Mary) Minervini, Michael (Yvonne) Nicosia, Connie (Robert) Kellogg, and Rose Marie Nicosia. Dominic has one surviving brother Michael (Maxine) Tisbe.
Dominic loved most being with his family and was happiest with his wife at his side. He was a very social man who never met a stranger. Dominic was active in his children’s lives and especially enjoyed coaching their softball/baseball teams. He was lovingly called “Mr. Nic” by all his children’s friends. He was a hardworking man, supporting his family while working several jobs before his employment at the CTA as a train mechanic and supervisor retiring in 2002. During his retirement, he enjoyed golfing and trips with his wife and family. You could often find Dominic relaxing and enjoying the summer breeze in his backyard screen house. He was a loyal Chicago White Sox and Black Hawks fan. Dominic continued his deep devotion to his wife Irene with daily visits to Grace Point Place Memory Care where Irene has resided since 2018. Dominic was often found sitting with Irene and holding her hand for hours. In his last weeks, Dominic moved in with Irene and the two sweethearts were together again. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and forever in our hearts.
