Giedraitis, Alvina Antoinette. January 12, 2022, age 92, devoted wife of Anthony Giedraitis (d. 2004), loving mother of Anita Postillion, Christine Dorman, Marie (Rick) Hazen, Anthony (Carol) Giedraitis Jr., Simonetta (Leonard) Pacek, Patricia Giedraitis and the late Bernadette Giedraitis, cherished grandmother of 17, great-grandmother of 5, fond aunt of many nieces and nephews, beloved sister of Helen Ann Kupetis and Katherine (Bror) Johnson, as well as her deceased sisters and brothers Regina (George) Endriukaitis (d.2010), Leonard Benaitis (d.1991), Anthony (Nancy) Benaitis Jr., Michael Benaitis (d.2012) and Raymond (Viola) Benaitis (d. 2021). Alvina is also survived by many other relatives and friends. Alvina was a proud member of the Knights of Lithuania (4th degree), Court Reporter (retired 1991) for the State of Illinois and a graduate of St. Casimir Acadamy, and MacCormack Business College (1966). Alvina was a daily rosary-praying, devout Catholic, wife, mother and businesswoman. In her day, she was also a renowned mezzo soprano who performed regularly with the Chicago Lithuanian Opera Company and was recognized as the first American-born Lithuanian-American opera divas in local music circles. She was a long-time parishioner at Nativity BVM parish and resident of then Lithuanian Marquette Park in Chicago. Her life was a life of song, whether singing with her sisters and brothers, children, husband, friends or in various professional settings performing in numerous public programs and concerts. Visitation Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m., at the Palos-Gaidas Funderal Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy., Palos Hills, IL 60465. Lying-in-State, Friday, 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at Nativity B.V.M. Church, 2700 W. 69th St., in Chicago. Interment St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery, Giedraitis Monument.
