Jonas Pleirys, age 92, passed away Wednesday, September 12, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Valeria Pleirys for 71 years. Loving father of Virginia (Peter) Jokubauskas, Julie (Vytas) Kasniunas, Vida (the late Ray) Bartasius, Alda (Sharky)Brakauskas. Cherished grandfather of Vytas (Tracy)Kasniunas III, Nina (Andy Gruver) Kasniunas, Erika (Darius Lalas) Jokubauskas, Laura (Tomas)Rupinskas, Lisa (Anthony Rosen), Justin and Andrew Bartasius, Victor and Krista Brakauskas. Dear great grandfather of Aven Kasniunas, Gabriel Lalas, and Benjamin Rupinskas. Fond brother of Vida Krenciene. Jonas was a proud member of the Painters and Tapers Local Union No. 265. After retiring, he was very busy in his woodworking shop, creating beautiful carvings of traditional Lithuanian crosses and mementos, that he shared with family members, friends and neighbors. Visitation Saturday, September 16, from 11:30 – 12:30 pm at Nativity B.V.M. Church (69th and Washtenaw, Chicago, IL) – mass following at 12:30pm. Interment St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery.
