Dorothy Axelson

Dorothy Elizabeth Axelson, nee Johnson, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Sunday evening, February 26th at the grand age of 97. She was the devoted life partner of Mel for 63 years prior to his passing(2006), the loving mother of four - Gary (Stacey), Nancy (Bill), Christine (Dan) and Randy (Anne), grandmother to ten, great-grandmother to eight. What an amazing gift her life has been to our family and to anyone who has ever had the good fortune of getting to know her! People loved being around her and were infected by her aura of joy and real warmth. She was always young at heart. Her selfless love, kindness, optimism, unwavering faith and wonderful sense of humor planted seeds deep within those of us who made up her family and have profoundly enriched every day of each of our lives. From our earliest memories what stands out is the unconditional love she had for us, her children - and for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When any of the four of us would come back to visit after we had left the nest, the greeting at the front door was always the same. Her face would light up in a great smile; love would fill her eyes and, with a great hug, we knew we were home, safe, someplace we were always so glad to be. Mom lived generously, genuinely and without pretense, lived rather than lectured the best values - and she navigated life with courage, humility and grace - setting an example for us to follow when we could.
